The first is you have to be using Tik Tok, yes, Tik Tok if you’ve been following my content long enough hell if you read this article at the end of social media marketing then you would already know that I used to be one of the biggest haters of Tik Tok that is until my brother-in-law and I founded outlaw masks during the pandemic at the beginning of 2020 and started using Tik Tok as social media marketing to grow our business to date we have over 200 000 followers on the platform we receive millions of organic views per month and I can co-sign and say that Tik Tok is the last place to go on social media to receive organic reach.
However, in order to get the most out of Tik Tok you can’t think like a marketer you need to think like a consumer and what I mean by that is if you use Tik Tok as a platform to just promote and sell your product you’re going to get nowhere instead what you need to do is really speak to the culture of the platform and as many marketers out there. I used to think that Tik Tok was a social network for just kids hence why I was critical of it but in reality, Tik Tok is the new Facebook circa 2015. It’s grown-up it’s matured there are adults on there however the content on Tik Tok must be short and easy to consume and incorporate trending music.

Content consumers today are being drowned out by all the noise that exists on social media everywhere you turn you’re seeing marketers and gurus and thought leaders and brands all fighting for a limited amount of digital attention with that being said in order for you to stand out on social media your content needs to be short what I mean by sure is trying to get your message out there in anywhere from 15 to 30 seconds max really turn to resources like Instagram stories again Tik Tok, Instagram Reels to communicate your brand’s message the longer that you make someone sit and get to the punch line the harder. It’s going to be to convert that viewer into a customer so hardly try to keep your content short and precise as much as possible.
3. Community Matters
Three is a community, a lot of marketers will tell you that content is king, but that’s the community is really what’s king because without community all you have is just nothing and the major things is that you depend on having social media followers. I’m not talking about the vanity metrics I’m talking about real followers you depend on having those followers comment on your content to share your content to advocate for your brand. If you do not have that then it is often very hard for you to yield the return that you’re seeking on social media so to make an engaged community in 2020 take longer to figure the DMS to figure the at mentions the at replies to require time to try to what I seek advice from as direct engagement rather than expecting consumers to return your way what you would like to try and do is you would like to travel to them reverse engineer community management.
4. Market your brand like an influencer
Market your brand like an influencer, if there is something that you can take away from watching DJ Khaled, Charlie Demilio Jake and Logan Paul it’s that people gravitate to other people buy from brands. People are brands themselves in fact in my article then the marketing what I teach readers throughout the article is that if you want to succeed over the next decade as a brand that uses social media to market their business you yourself need to humanize your brand and instead of just being viewed as a logo or a product or a service. You need to take a page out of the playbook of what your favourite celebrity or influencer does and in order to do that you need to rely more on platforms that are going to help you make your brand real and relatable like in Instagram stories. Maybe you start using clubhouse maybe you start using podcasts mediums that you’re not relying on telling your brand story or speaking about your brand but instead what you’re doing is making a human connection to others through content that’s either educational inspirational or motivational.
5. Focus on moments over marketing
In this year focus on moments over marketing and what I mean by this statement is every single day there are different. Let’s just call them occurrences that are happening in the world around us, you go on Tik Tok there’s a viral challenge you go on Twitter people are talking about the news they’re talking about what’s important to them. If you as a brand and brand marketer really want to stand out you need to find a way to insert yourself into those conversations versus you being the center of attention or being the conversation so again really focus this year on being more empathetic to what your community really needs focus on tapping into human emotion by creating content that makes people feel closely connected to your brand and most importantly is a part of the moments that other people are speaking about as opposed to just marketing your product or your business.
